![]() Hecate |
The crone of all crones, Hecate is the ancient Greek and Roman Queen of Wisdom and the witches' magic, Guardian of the Crossroads, Triple Goddess, she who rules the night and the powers that be formed in her iron cauldron. My little Hecate was placed in a gabled triptych wooden altar box, painted inside and out with a purple/blue hue like the night sky, and sprinkled with brass stars (from Germany). On both sides the opened doors become painted panels of Persephone on the left, with pomegranate, as the Maiden; and Demeter on the right bearing wheat, as the Mother. Hecate, the Crone stands between them in three dimensions over her cauldron (candle holder), accompanied by her dog (modeled after some dear friends' dog, named "Midnight"). An original poem is inscribed in gold along the top. Hecate's wise presence may be invoked to aid in those important decisions made upon the journey of life each time we meet a cross-roads.
