![]() Mother Ocean |
In the beginning, all life came from the womb of the sea, salty as the blood that flows now within us all. The idea for Mother Ocean came to me in a song, a gift from the waves rolling in and ebbing out off the coast of Maine. She sits on a glittering "wet" rock, feet among the shifting tides. Joyfully celebrating life and the sea, one hand is held over her pregnant belly. She is the essence of a fertile and nourishing ocean, ever flowing with ongoing life. She lifts a conch shell, ever-spiraling around the eternal sound of the sea. She is my first adventure in La Doll, a natural stone air-drying clay. She is painted with a blue iridescence, her blue wool hair sprinkled with silver threads and pearly drops, and crowned with Maine seaweed and a starfish. Her "rock" is sculpted of Celluclay, on a rotating base with sparkling fabric waves. Her ample figure seated is 16". As waves come and go. Mother Ocean breathes with me As we ebb and flow.
